Indonesia’s gaming industry is booming, with over 148 million active gamers and a market exceeding USD 2 billion. As Southeast Asia’s largest gaming market and one of the top 15 globally, the country is now focused on building a more resilient and innovation-friendly ecosystem.
The Ministry of Creative Economy is spearheading efforts to strengthen cross-sector collaboration – bringing together game developers with music, film, illustration, and intellectual property (IP) creators. In a recent meeting with a global game developer, Deputy Minister Irene Umar emphasized the importance of these partnerships in driving sustainable growth.
Key initiatives include enhancing IP protection, expanding access to production and marketing support, and improving infrastructure. The government is also working with the Financial Services Authority (OJK) to unlock broader funding opportunities for local developers.
These reforms aim to boost creativity, generate employment, and tackle persistent threats such as digital piracy and unauthorized content distribution – issues that directly impact the industry’s long-term viability.
Enforcement authorities are also doing their part. Working alongside economic crime police, SKC Law’s Enforcement & Intelligence Team recently helped a leading game developer resolve copyright and trademark violations tied to cheat code distribution, securing a swift and practical outcome.
