SKC Law’s Internship Program
SKC Law’s internship program aims to bridge academic theory with real-world legal practice in Indonesia’s intellectual property (IP) sector. We welcome talented students, such as Jose Fidel Salomo, and deliver hands-on experience in prosecution, litigation, and IP management.
The growth of internship programs in Indonesian firms, especially in IP, reflects a positive movement in talent development. For students, the program offers an opportunity to work on real cases, such as analysing copyright infringement in digital content.
Relevant Industry Insights
1. Internship Trends & Talent Pipeline
Internship hiring in Indonesian law firms has shown growth. Major firms now view internships as a key talent pipeline, typically recruiting students after their sixth semester for three-month programs – an approach also adopted by SKC Law.
Internships are proven to improve retention: 67.7% of internal intern hires remain after one year, compared to just 35.7% for those with no internship experience.
2. Collaboration, and Innovation
Having interns helps enhance team collaboration and knowledge transfer. At SKC Law, interns participate in weekly meetings, due diligence, and IP registration tracking, gaining a close-up view of cross-industry legal work.
Interns bring fresh perspectives and are usually tech-savvy, driving digital finesse – important in IP services, where technology and regulations evolve rapidly.
Jose’s Last Day
During his last day, Jose presented a case study on copyright risks in YouTube live streams, analysing legal implications and presenting findings to SKC Law’s leadership.
“On the final day of my internship program at SKC Law, I delivered a case study presentation focusing on the potential copyright infringement arising from the use of a song in a YouTube video. The video in question was a recording of a live-streamed event that featured a song as background music, without any indication that royalties had been paid to the songwriter.” Says Jose.
“I conducted a legal analysis of the possible copyright violations involved in this situation and compiled my findings into a PowerPoint presentation. The analysis was then presented directly before Ms. Nidya, Co-Founder and Partner of SKC Law, along with the entire Prosecution & Litigation Team.” Jose continued.
This final “IP case study test” approach exemplifies how the program bridges theory and practice.
