Insights from International IP Asset Management Program

Insights from International IP Asset Management Program

The 19th Advanced International Certificate Course on Intellectual Property (IP) Asset Management for Business Success (AICC), delivered by WIPO Academy with MOIP Korea, KIPA, and KAIST; took place in Seoul on November 3–6, 2025. Out of 1,364 applicants worldwide, only 33 professionals from 23 countries progressed to the in‑person phase. The final in-person phase covered the program’s core lessons; valuation, commercialization, litigation tactics, licensing strategy, and Emerging Issues on IP: Al and IP, into practical takeaways for companies focusing on innovation-driven growth. Among the selected participants was Roy Rinaldo Lumbantoruan, Associate at SKC Law, representing Indonesia on a global stage. This blog highlights key insights from Roy’s perspective.

What AICC Is and Why It Matters

AICC combines pre‑qualifying online learning (IP Panorama 2.0, WIPO DL‑450 on advanced IP management, and a written essay) with an intensive in‑person program. The program is designed to take participants from core knowledge to real-world strategy; bringing together legal, financial, and commercial considerations.

For businesses, the significance is clear: IP has shifted from a compliance topic to a primary value lever.

The ability to assess, structure, and deploy IP for revenue generation, financing, and market access increasingly determines competitive outcomes.

Roy’s Perspective: Global Lessons, Local Impact

Representing Indonesia at AICC, Roy Rinaldo Lumbantoruan summarized his experience:

“The program broadened my practical understanding of IP management and commercialization. The combination of rigorous content and hands‑on exercises; especially on valuation, licensing, and enforcement-has sharpened how I approach cross‑border IP issues. The chance to exchange ideas with experts from multiple jurisdictions was invaluable and will directly inform how we guide businesses through complex IP landscapes.”

His participation reflects the importance of continuous capability building in a field where international practice trends increasingly shape local outcomes.

Looking Ahead

Programs like AICC demonstrate how IP strategy, finance, and execution converge. For companies operating in Indonesia or conducting regional expansion, adopting the suggested global best practices can materially improve growth.
