Dismantling of Mod Network in Indonesia
Reports from the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB) player community alerted MOONTON Games to suspicious cheating activity affecting game play. What followed was a coordinated effort between the Central Java Regional Police, MOONTON Games and SKC Law that resulted in the successful resolution of a significant cheat software case.
Background
MLBB is one of Southeast Asia’s most popular mobile games, with over 1.5 billion installations worldwide.
The game faced challenges that compromised competitive gameplay. Unauthorised modifications; including map hacks and drone-style vision tools; were being distributed through networks of websites, Telegram channels, and social media accounts, supported by a range of local and international payment methods.
Acting on reports from the MLBB player community, MOONTON Games, working closely with SKC Law, began working with authorities on technical monitoring and intelligence collection to trace the networks responsible for developing and distributing the cheat software.
Investigation
SKC Law supported MOONTON Games in identifying the individuals behind the operations and established that “Senpai Mod” operated as both a distributor and reseller of cheat software primarily designed for ranked MLBB gameplay.
Following further investigations led by the Central Java Regional Police’s Directorate of Cyber Crimes, the authorities uncovered that “NUI Mod” functioned as the upstream software supplier supporting the Senpai Mod operation, thereby revealing both the distribution and production layers of the cheat software network.
Enforcement Outcome
With the strong support of the Central Java Regional Police, the matter was successfully resolved. The operators have formally undertaken to:
1. Immediately cease all development, sale, and distribution of cheat software.
2. Permanently shut down all related websites and social media channels.
The case also uncovered that while the cheat software was primarily marketed to players in Indonesia, its reach extended across Southeast Asia, with transaction records suggesting a global customer base.
Significance
This demonstrates the importance of industry collaboration with law enforcement authorities in protecting the integrity of online gaming ecosystems.
For rights holders in the gaming and digital content sectors, the case provides a practical reference for addressing similar threats to platform integrity and commercial interests through coordinated action with law enforcement authorities.
